Emma Raducanu wraps up this year's campaign and plans to retain trainer into the 2026 season.
Raducanu advanced to round three in three of the four major tournaments this year.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her final two events of the year due to a health issue that has affected her in recent days.
The 22-year-old had planned to participate in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate ahead of launching plans for the 2026 season.
Those preparations will include coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have agreed to work together for the upcoming season.
Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring in her opening round with Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She needed once more a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.
Her movement was far from freely in the final set versus Zhu due to the lower back problem that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
Those results meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the international top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, finished with a trio of defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to Pegula in the third round in last month's Beijing event.
Raducanu won 28 matches this year and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.
The British number one advanced to the quarters of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed during the tournament prior to a loss in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.
The first plan with the former trainer of Nadal was through the season's conclusion but the collaboration persists, with a training session scheduled in the coming months.
Raducanu told that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
