Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
