Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
