Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player in the world that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club never to appear in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.

Toronto's team claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
