Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
